Six injured in clashes during temple festival

KASARAGOD: Six persons were injured in a clash between two groups at the Vishnu Moorthi temple in Velazhi, near Kundumkuzhy, in the district on Sunday evening. The clash occurred during the Theyyam festival there.

The police identified the injured as Govindan, 47, a merchant in Velazhi; C. Nitish, 20; B. Ravindran, 32; B. Ratnakaran, 24; S. Sundaran, 19; and G. Manikandan, 17, all residents of Jayapuram colony, Munnad. The clash occurred when a group of people from Jayapuram colony who arrived at the temple in an inebriated state allegedly misbehaved with a girl.

The police later brought the situation under control. The injured have been admitted to various hospitals in Chengala and Mangalore. The condition of Nitish is reported to be serious. He has been admitted to a private hospital in Mangalore.
