Four of family found dead

KOCHI: A four-member family was found dead inside their house at Nayarambalam near here on Monday morning. The deceased were identified as Murali, 41, wife Sini, 38, children Bidula, 7, and Bidun, 11.

According to Njarakkal police, Murali hacked to death his wife and then hanged his children using rope and cloth. The bodies of the children were found hanging from the window bars of the room. He then committed suicide by hanging to the roof, the police said.

Murali’s mother, who is seriously ill and bedridden, was in the next room.

The police said the deaths might have happened anytime between 8 p.m. and 3 a.m. The police were informed of the event by 7 a.m.

History

The police said that Murali, a fisherman, was suspected to be mentally imbalanced. He had attempted to kill himself once in the past when his mother saved him. The bodies were taken to the Medical College Hospital in Alappuzha for post-mortem.
