Fake note case: two held

Accused arrested from near the Chalakkudy market

KOCHI: Ernakulam Crime Branch CID Special Investigation Group arrested two persons who were absconding for four years after being charged of trying to spend counterfeit currency.

Those arrested were identified as Mukundan, 55, of West Koratty, Thrissur, and Mohammed, 53, of Chalakkudy. Malakkappara police had registered a case against them and three other accused for trying to spend 100 counterfeit currency of denomination Rs.500 near Mariappan Kovil, Malakkappara on March 11, 2001.

The case was later handed over to the Crime Branch.

The Crime Branch had arrested three persons earlier. The Thrissur Fast Track Court had issued arrested warrants against the accused. The Crime Branch CID SIG-II led by Superintendent of Police P.H. Ashraf arrested the accused from near the Chalakkudy market after being tipped-off about their movement.

They were produced before the Fast Track Court.
