Raichur
They submitted a memorandum to A. Venkatesh Naik The Government has not released funds in two years Raichur: Students of Government ITI College staged a dharna here on Monday demanding that the Government initiate action to provide scholarships to ITI students belonging to Schedule Castes, Schedule Tribes, Backward Classes and minorities. Around 50 students under the banner of the All India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO), led by Sharanappa Udbal, president of the district unit of the organisation, took out a procession to the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The students boycotted their classes. They submitted a memorandum to Raichur MP A. Venkatesh Naik urging him to take up their demand with the district administration. In the memorandum, they said that students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes and minorities had been in distress owing to lack of scholarships, as most of them came from poor families. They said that the Government, which had sanctioned scholarships to eligible ITI students in the district, had failed to release required funds in the past two years. They withdrew the dharna when Mr. Naik promised them that he would discuss their problems with the officials concerned in the Departments of Social Welfare and Backward Classes and Minorities.
