Radhakant refutes charges

Staff Reporter

Bhubaneswar: Rajya Sabha member Radhakant Nayak has said he has never done anything to disturb the secular fabric of the country. Reacting to reports published in these columns, the MP said “I am strongly committed to the Constitution and the rule of law including rights of citizens based on justice and truth. There is no way I am linked to the sad development of the communal flare-up that has happened in Kandhamal district.”

He said it was very surprising that Swami Lakhnananda Saraswati and others had been falsely naming him for the trouble only to mislead the people.

“The name of the game seems to be: offence is the best form of defence, now carried out by blaming the victims. I do not believe in anything that is detrimental to social peace and religious harmony,” he said.

Mr. Nayak said he was positively secular person and was in no way connected with the kind of accusation that was being tried to link him to.

As regards the differences between the Kondhs and the Panos on the issue of reservation, he said he was of the view that there was no difference or dispute which cannot be solved through Constitutional and legal means.

“Both the communities are dear to me and therefore I would appeal to them that they should not be misguided by the reactionary and vested interests and live in peace and harmony which they have been doing for centuries,” he said.
