Central funds for water scheme

Thiruvananthapuram: The Union government has released Rs.41.46 crore to Kerala under the Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme. It is the second instalment of funds for the programme for the year 2007-08 against the original allocation of Rs.82.93 crore. The funds are for execution and completion of drinking water schemes in rural habitations and schools. The Union Ministry for Rural Development has also released a grant-in aid of Rs.3.65 crore under the Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY). The Central share of the funds are to be utilised by the District Rural Development Agencies in Kollam (Rs.155 lakh), Palakkad (Rs.180 lakh) and Idukki (Rs.30.42 lakh). — Special Correspondent
