Construction of new housing complexes and renovation of Pushkarini on the anvil Pilgrims will have good lodging facilities at affordable prices on Tirumala BANGALORE: The State Government has decided to take up various developmental works, such as adding additional buildings to its choultries, face lifting of existing structures, construction of new housing complexes and renovation of Pushkarini on the lines of Hampi on Tirumala, in a phased manner, at a total cost of Rs. 42.48 crore. The Karnataka State Charities has been in possession of 7.6 acres of land on Tirumala. After the introduction of Andhra Pradesh Inams Abolition Act 1956, these lands were vested with the Andhra Pradesh Government. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) got the ownership of the land, according to an official press note. So far, the State Government was waiting to get the clearance from the TTD to take up construction and repair works. After a series of discussions the revenue secretary (Muzrai) had with the TTD officers, recently, the TTD passed a resolution to offer 7.05 acres, on lease basis, to Karnataka State Charities. The lease agreement between the TTD and Karnataka State Charities would be signed shortly. Once the agreement is signed, the long-felt need of Karnataka pilgrims to have good lodging facilities at affordable prices on Tirumala would be fulfilled by taking up construction works on priority basis, the note said. Street wideningRecently, 0.28 cents of land had been handed over to TTD for widening of West Mada Street and Ring Road. Again, the TTD has made a request for 0.27 cents of land for construction of footpath, galleries and service road near Karnataka Choultry. The State Government has also proposed to construct a commercial complex at Tirupati by demolishing an old structure and a choultry at Thiruchanur at a cost of Rs. 1.2 crore. These proprieties are in the possession of Karnataka State Charities, said a press release of the Revenue Department.
