New Delhi
NEW DELHI: The presidents of both the Delhi Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party have wished the Capital’s citizens a very happy and prosperous New Year and declared that their parties would work towards ensuring more development in the city. In his message, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president J. P. Agarwal extended his greetings to the people of Delhi and wished that the New Year would bring happiness to all. He said 2008 would herald more development and progress in Delhi and thanked the people of the city for extending their faith and cooperation to the Congress in its efforts for far-reaching progress and development in Delhi. Mr. Agarwal also appealed to the Congress workers to work with focused attention and devotion to further strengthen the hold of the party in Delhi and to bring about more development and progress. He said the thrust of the Congress had been on improving the quality of life of the people, particularly the poor and the underprivileged, and the party would strengthen the resolve to improve the lot of the less privileged and bring cheer into the face of every citizen. ‘Not tolerate disrespect’Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan, congratulating the people on the eve of the New Year, said every citizen of Delhi should make a resolve “to dislodge the Congress Government which is playing with the belief of the majority community through its stand on the Ram Sethu issue.” He said the “Ram Sethu Bachao” rally held here on Sunday had proved that the people of India will not tolerate any disrespect to the sentiments of the Hindus. “Lakhs of people who assembled at the Golden Jubilee Park in Rohini had raised slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ to warn the Central Government that it should desist from dismantling the Ram Sethu otherwise the religious feelings of the Hindus shall rout the anti-Ram forces,” Dr. Vardhan cautioned. The Delhi BJP president said “the way the people of Delhi had expressed their acrimony against the anti-people policies of the Central and Delhi governments” had caused a great deal of concern in the Congress. “The anti-religious and appeasement-supporting Congress governments are being removed from all the States ruled by them and this chain of the fall of Congress will reach the Centre while passing through Delhi.”
