Thiruvananthapuram: The United Malayali Association (UMA), an umbrella organisation of eight prominent associations of Keralites working in Dubai, has expressed interest in setting up a modern hospital in the State. At a press conference here on Monday, its chief coordinator, Karim Vengidangu, and Abdul Latheef, secretary, Indian Relief Committee, said the association would place this proposal before the State government soon. Mr. Latheef said non-resident Keralites (NRKs) were willing to invest money for setting up the hospital. “We do not want any profit from the venture. The aim should be to provide world-class treatment to the needy,” he said. The two said the Department of Non-Resident Keralite Affairs should be reorganised. Norka should open more branches in the Gulf countries to solve problems faced by Keralites. The move to collect user’s fee from air travellers should be abandoned.
