NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has acquired 17 heavy earth-moving equipments, including five hydraulic excavators, for better management of solid waste at its sanitary landfill sites. ‘Urgently needed’Giving details, Mayor Arti Mehra on Monday said the equipment -- nine bulldozers, five hydraulic excavators and three backhoe loaders – would be used for levelling solid waste dumped at three sanitary landfill sites in Bhalaswa, Ghazipur and Okhla. The Mayor said the municipal body was in urgent need of equipment to level the garbage as alternative sites were not available. AgreementThe civic body has entered into a six-year agreement with the manufacturer of the equipment for its maintenance, whereas the expenditure on diesel and lubricants would be borne by the municipal body. Emphasising the need to discover alternative methods for disposal of garbage, Ms. Mehra said the MCD needs adequate manpower and machinery for disposal of the ever-increasing quantity of garbage and its sanitation fleet will soon be strengthened in the phased manner to keep pace with the requirement. Engineered siteMs. Mehra informed that an engineered sanitary landfill site was being developed at Jaitpur near Badarpur over an area of 24.6 acre. The municipal body has also procured land for developing another landfill site on Narela-Bawana Road with a daily capacity of 1,000 metric tons. Another integrated project at Bhatti Mines is also proposed. The Mayor said two super-sucker machines and other equipment would be purchased soon to carry out de-silting.
