Listed below are some popular New Year traditions around the world: Spain: The popular New Year tradition in Spain is that of eating twelve grapes as the clock strikes 12 at midnight. This tradition signifies twelve happy months in the coming New Year. Japan: The tradition of organizing various Bonenkai or “forget the year parties” that are held to bid farewell to the old year along with its problems. Another tradition followed in Japan is that of giving Otoshidamas (small gifts or money) to children. China: Holding family reunions, cleansing the house, offering sacrifices to the ancestors, wearing red clothes and firework displays are all part of New Year traditions in China. United States: United States has its own way to celebrate the New Year’s Day. “Tournament of Roses Parade” and “Orange Bowl Game” are the events organized on the New Year’s Day in United States.
