Staff Correspondent

Prohibitory orders still on

Sequel to the killing of RSS Pracharak Sunil Joshi

He was an accused in the murder of a tribal leader

BHOPAL: Prohibitory orders under Section 144 Cr PC continued for the second consecutive day in Dewas on Monday in the wake of one death in sporadic incidents of violence on Sunday.

The violence started following the murder of former RSS Pracharak Sunil Joshi on Saturday night and the situation in the town is reportedly tense.

Sunil Joshi was one of the prime accused in the murder of the tribal leader P.S. Nenama of the Congress more than three years ago.

Dewas Collector Navnit Kothari told The Hindu that some arrests were likely on Monday. Stating that an appeal had been made to the people to ignore all rumours, he informed that the situation was under control and sufficient police force was available to tackle any eventuality.

A rumour had spread on Monday afternoon that one more person injured in Sunday’s violence had died in Indore taking the death toll to two. This was also reported in a section of local evening newspapers.

The situation was ignited by the murder of Mr. Joshi on Saturday night. There were riots and a virtual bandh in Dewas district and the district authorities were forced to clamp Section 144 in the entire district on Sunday afternoon.

According to information received here, three members of a family were mobbed and fired at in Sutarkheda village, 30 km from Dewas district headquarters, and one of them was declared brought dead by the Ujjain district hospital.

Another person injured in a related acid throwing incident was said to be critical.
