CBSE athletic meet in Kochi

KOCHI: The 12th CBSE National Athletic Meet will be held at the Maharaja’s College synthetic track here from January 4 to 8.

Over 2,500 athletes from 350 schools in the country and abroad will be seen in action. Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala, is the event host.

“Besides children from India, athletes from Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Dubai, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia will take part. Kerala is hosting the meet for the first time,” said Maya Mohan, Chinmaya Vidyalaya Principal, here on Monday.

A torch relay will be held at the stadium in connection with the opening ceremony followed by the 1,500-m race for under-19 boys and girls.

A colourful physical training display by students of the host school and a welcome sequence showcasing various art forms of Kerala will be held as part of the inauguration function.

Students of the SBOA, Chittoor, Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kannamali, Gregorian Public School, Maradu, and Bhavan’s, Eroor, will present a rhythm sequence representing the important dance forms of the four regions of the country.

Shoba Mohan, Director, Physical Education Department, Chinmaya Vidyalaya, said that a ‘run for fitness, run for fun’ event would be held on January 2. It would begin at 4.30 p.m. The run would start from High Court Junction and conclude at the Maharaja’s College ground.

Ms. Mohan said that Labour India Public School, Kottayam, was the overall champion last year.
