Giving a lecture on “Art and the Modern World” at the 82nd International Theosophical Convention on December 29, Srimati Rukmini Devi said that people were now beginning to take an interest in art and “that is just the reason why one has to be very careful to see that the pure nature of our distinctive art is preserved." They knew that art was a culture thermometer. “Our political leaders are making efforts to bring about peace. Real peace can come only when our inner nature gets refined and becomes sensitive to human feelings and emotions.” In the morning session, there was a lecture on the “Culture of India” by Mrs. Radha S. Burnier. She said that there was a unity of culture in India in spite of differences in race, religion, language, etc.
