dated January 1, 1958: A.J. Ewins dead

Dr. Arthur James Ewins, one of the discoverers of the anti-pneumonia drug known as M and B, died on Christmas Eve, it was announced in London on December 30. This drug, which has been responsible for saving many lives, was discovered by Dr. Ewins in association with Dr. M.A. Philips in 1937. He was also responsible for many other important medical discoveries, including the development of drugs for treating tropical diseases. He was elected a fellow of the Royal Society in 1943 and retired in 1952.
