Border fencing suspended
Iboyaima Laithangbam
IMPHAL: The work on erecting a 10 km long border fencing near the Moreh market in Manipur has been suspended following objections raised by some military officers from Myanmar.
India and Myanmar have a common border 1,643 km long, of which 398 km is in Manipur .
The plan to erect the border fencing was finalised during Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta’s recent visit to Imphal.
A military officer from Myanmar had sent a protest note to the Additional District Collector of Moreh, Hopson Chothe . The note pointed out that there were border disputes between the countries. There had been reports of missing boundary pillars and the like.
