SINGAPORE: Reminiscent of the bomb blasts in Bangkok on the eve of New Year’s Day 2007, a series of explosions rocked a tourist centre, Sungai Kolok, in the restive Narathiwat province of southern Thailand in the early hours of Monday. At least 27 persons were injured, while some reports said 31 were hurt. Unrest in that area is often linked to the ongoing “Muslim insurgency” in the Buddhist-majority kingdom. Meanwhile, political moves intensified in Bangkok to form a post-poll coalition to end the current spell of rule by a military-installed government.
