NEW DELHI: P. Hari Krishna made amends for the first-round loss by trouncing local favourite Michele Godena in the only decisive battle of the second round of Reggio Emilia International chess tournament at Reggio Emilia, Italy, on Sunday. The Indian’s 58-move victory, with white pieces after the opening phase of Ruy Lopez, leaves him tied for the third spot with five others in the nine-round event. Almasi and Romania’s Mihail Marin lead with 1.5 points each. On Saturday, the third seeded Indian had lost to top seeded Hungarian Zoltan Almasi in 40 moves. The results: Second round: P. Hari Krishna (1) bt Michele Godena (Ita, 0.5); Victor Korchnoi (Sui, 1) drew with Zoltan Almasi (Hun, 1.5); Mihail Marin (Rom, 1.5) drew with David Navara (Cze, 1); Vugar Gashimov (Aze, 1) drew with Ni Hua (Chn, 1); Sergei Tiviakov (Ned, 0.5) drew with Landa Konstantin (Rus, 1). First round: Almasi bt Hari; Konstantin drew with Korchnoi; Tiviakov lost to Marin; Godena drew with Gashimov; Hua drew with Navara.
