Sydney: The Sydney Cricket Ground, for long a spinner’s paradise, might help the seamers during the second Test between India and Australia. Curator Tom Parker said on Wednesday that the track would offer movement off the seam, pace and bounce. There have been conflicting reports about the nature of the surface over the last few days. The Australian left-armer Mitchell Johnson said that on the evidence of a recent state game for Queensland, the strip was slow and low. Former captain Mark Taylor meanwhile said it would be a good cricket wicket with bounce. Since 2000, teams have averaged nearly 40 runs a wicket on this ground at a rate of 3.56 an over; Australia has won nine of ten Tests in the period — India drew the other match, a high-scoring affair in 2003-04, falling four wickets short of a famous series win. — Special Correspondent
