Rahul Sanghvi and Narwal in Delhi Ranji team

NEW DELHI: The selection committee, which met under the chairmanship of Vinay Lamba at the DDCA here on Monday, chose the following team to represent Delhi in the Ranji Trophy semifinals against Baroda to be played at Indore from January 5 to 9.

Left-arm spinner Rahul Sanghvi and medium-pacer Sumit Narwal have been included in the team on the request of skipper Gautam Gambhir. Sanghvi comes out of retirement while Narwal is yet to make his debut for Delhi.

Gautam Gambhir (captain), Akash Chopra, Shikhar Dhawan, Mithun Manhas, Mayank Tehlan, Chetnya Nanda, Amit Bhandari, Parvinder Awana, Narinder Singh, Rajat Bhatia, Puneet Bisht, Aditya Jain, Gaurav Chhabra, Rahul Sanghvi, Sumit Narwal. Coach: Vijay Dahiya; Assistant coach: Ajit Chaudhary; Bowling coach: Manoj Prabhakar; Manager: Manoj Kapoor; Physio: Dr. Badrinath Prathi.

Anup, Saina given top billing

The top eight players in the country, led by Anup Sridhar, will fight it out for the winner’s purse of Rs.110,000 in the men’s section in the all-India Pramod Mahajan memorial badminton tournament to be held at the Siri Fort Complex here from January 3 to 6.

In the women’s event, the top four ranked national players, with Saina Nehwal as the spearhead, will vie for the top honours and an equal prize money of Rs.110,000.

The qualifying events are scheduled to be held at the Siri Fort Sports Complex and the AIIMS Gymkhana on January 1 and 2.

The seedings: Men: 1. Anup Sridhar, 2. P. Kashyap, 3. B. Chetan Anand, 4. Anand Pawar, 5. Arvind Bhat, 6. Ravinder Singh, 7. J. B. S. Vidyadhar and 8. Sachin Ratti.

Women: 1. Saina Nehwal, 2. Trupti Murgunde, 3. Aditi Mutaikar and 4. Aparna Balan.

Young Friends records win

Vinay Kumar and Solwok Singh took three wickets apiece to guide Young Friends to a 22-run victory over Ravindra Public School in the Lala Ram Charan Aggarwal memorial cricket tournament at the Ramjas College ground.

The scores: Young Friends 156 in 36.4 overs (Naved Hussain 53, Nitesh Lochab four for 13) bt Ravindra Public School 134 in 34.3 overs. Rawat nets winner

Hitender Rawat scored the match-winner as Ahbab Club upset Garhwal Heroes 1-0 in a group ‘B’ super-league match of the SAIL-ONGC DSA senior division football league at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Monday.

Subhash Negi lobbed a free-kick from 25 yards and Hitender flicked home in clinching the crucial goal, against the run of play, in the 31st minute.
