Tamilan CC (Karaikudi) triumphs

Madurai: Tamilan Cricket Club (Karaikudi) lifted the Sun Brothers Trophy defeating Vignesh Sports Club (Dindigul) by one run in the final of sixth State-level cricket tournament organised by Sun Brothers Cricket Club at Usilampatti on Monday.

Vignesh SC required three runs for victory off the last ball of the match but Mohamed who took the strike, was run out while attempting the second run.

The scores: Tamilan CC (Karaikudi) 178 in 33.4 overs (Vinoth 60, Devendra Kumar four for 23, Basker four for 22) bt Vignesh SC (Dindigul) 177 in 35 overs (Karthik 42). Kabaddi tournament

The 23rd all-India ‘A’ grade prize money kabaddi tournament for Ilamaruthu Trophy organised jointly by Ilamaruthu Kabaddi Club and Chinnamanur All Sports Club will be held at the Srikrishna Iyer HSS ground in Chinnamanur near Theni from January 4 to 6.

Muthukannan hits 73

Muthukannan’s 73-helped Power Cricket Club defeat Seconds Cricket Club ‘A’ by 18 runs in a Canara Bank-Tuticorin DCA first division league tie at Tuticorin on Sunday.

The scores: First division: Power CC 259 in 44.2 overs (Ganesh 44, Muthu Kumaran 73, Pon Mariappan five for 40) bt Seconds CC ‘A’ 241 in 42.5 overs (Ramesh 84, Premkumar 83).

Second division: Young Waves CC 65 in 25.4 overs lost to Seconds CC ‘B’ 68 for one in 17.4 overs; Pearl City CC 225 in 39.3 overs bt Kayal CC 132 in 29.5 overs (Thauheed 48).

Third division: TAC CC 85 in 16.4 overs (Britto four for 30, Sasi five for 24) bt SDR CC 62 in 15.1 overs (Manoj five for 18).
