Raghunath wins 10m air rifle gold

AHMEDABAD: In the absence of Olympic quota holders Gagan Narang and Abhinav Bindra, shooters from the defence services ruled the ranges as Navyman P.T. Raghunath enjoyed his good form to win the gold medal in the men’s 10m air rifle event, in the 51st National shooting championship here on Monday.

In fact with nothing to prove after the closure of Olympic qualifications, Raghunath made sure he was on the radar when the national squad for the 2008 world meets are decided.

The Navy shooter scored 595 in the qualification rounds and made it to the eight-man final with a three point lead.

In the final, Raghunath shot an impressive 105.6 for a total of 700.6.

Army’s Hardeep Singh bagged the silver medal with a total of 695.9 after outdoing Sanjeev Rajput and Satyendra Singh in the final with a round of 103.9.
