CHAMARAJANAGAR: Members of the Chamarajanagar Zilla Panchayat have urged the Government to immediately distribute ration cards to below poverty line (BPL) families in the district. As soon as the zilla panchayat meeting began on Monday, Somanayak, representing Haradanahalli constituency, raised the issue and alleged that there were irregularities in the ration card distribution process. He urged the authorities concerned to take action against the officials who were accused of the irregularities. Replying to this, Chief Executive Officer of the panchayat G. Jayaram said that any ration card distributed to ineligible persons would be cancelled. The meeting decided to urge the Government to immediately distribute ration cards to BPL families. The meeting also discussed the steps to be taken to ease the drinking water problem in the district. Panchayat president Shailaja Mallesh presided over the meeting. Vice-president of the panchayat Puttaranga Shetty and district-level officials were present.
