Rajahmundry
Rajahmundry: As the talks between ONGC management and contract workers failed on last Saturday, the latter launched relay hunger strike on Monday. As a result, work was affected at all rigs except in Narsapur. Contract Workers’ Society has been demanding regularisation of 626 workers and served strike notice on the management last week. The ONGC officials, Labour Commissioner, Vijayawada, MPs, MLAs and representatives of Joint Action Committee held talks with workers, but they failed. The management agreed to absorb 60 workers as permanent employees in the first phase and later in a phased manner. However, the society did not agree to it. According to JAC member Sk. Hameed, CITU leader A.V. Nageswara Rao inaugurated the hunger strike camp.
