Karunanidhi on colour TV distribution

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said that the distribution of free colour televisions was not done based on the whims of an individual. There was a committee for the purpose in each village, which had representatives from among the people too. It was based on the recommendations of this committee that the distribution was undertaken, the Chief Minister clarified.

In a press release issued here, he said as many 2.28 lakh youths have been given employment in the government sector since the DMK came to power.

Industrial initiatives

As many as 11 new major industrial initiatives were coming up at an investment of over Rs.11,000 crore.

This would provide employment to over 1.25 lakh people.

Apart from this unemployment dole was being given to 3.53 lakh youths. The DMK government had also annulled the freeze on employment in the government sector, he said.
