Indian Bank posts win

Chennai: Indian Bank picked up full points with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Southern Railway ‘B’ in the senior division hockey league championship at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium on Monday. The winner led 1-0 at half-time.

A penalty corner strike by Nagendran gave Indian Bank the lead as early as the 10th minute. The resistance put up by the Railway defence after that could be broken only in the second half when Philip Martin netted to enlarge the lead. Tuesday will be a rest day.

Match drawn

Nethaji SC and Arrows played out a 1-1 draw in a Chennai Football Association senior division league match at the Nehru Stadium here on Monday. Ifeanyi opened the account for Arrows in the sixth minute while Guru equalised for Nethaji six minutes later.

In the first division, HVF and CPT scored one goal each. Mohan netted for CPT, while Partbiban scored for HVF.

Stanley triumphs

Stanley with a gross score of 146 won the two-day Madras-Open golf tournament on better second day’s score at Cosmo-TNGF course held during the weekend. Selvadurai (146 Gross) finished second.

In Handicap category Division I, S. Ramamirtham (12) with a nett score of 141 and C.V. Yudhvir (3) with a nett score of 146 were declared winner and runner-up respectively.

In Division II, Sathiaram Ram (17) with a nett score of 134 and Sandeep Singh (15) with a nett score of 141 finished first and second.

Swaran, Bhargav shine

Swaran Kripal Singh (57 not out) and Bhargav Singh (58 not out) guided Madras Gymkhana Club ‘B’ to an eight-wicket win over Andhra Club in the Madras Gymkhana Club inter-club cricket tournament recently.

The scores: Tower Club 56 in 19.1 overs lost to Madras Cricket Club 60 for one in 5.1 overs (Ranjith Kuruvilla 45 not out). Man of the match: Ranjith Kuruvilla.

Andhra Club 154 for five in 20 overs lost to Madras Gymkhana ‘B’ 155 for two in 19.4 overs (Swaran Kripal Singh 57 not out, Bhargav Ramani 58 not out). Man of the match: Swaran Kripal Singh.
