KOCHI: Registration and handover of land acquired for rail connectivity for the proposed Vallarpadam International Container Transhipment Terminal will be held on Tuesday, District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish said. N. Ramachandran, Chairman of the Cochin Port Trust, will distribute the cheques for compensation to landowners at a function to be held at the trust at 3.30 p.m. The land will be handed over to Railways. The landowners from Vaduthala will be the first beneficiaries to receive the cheques, the Collector said. Land has been acquired from four villages — Cheranalloor, Mulavukad and Edappally North and South — for the rail link. The Collector said that preliminary work towards readying basic infrastructure, such as road, water, power and drainage, would start shortly at the land at Kakkanad identified for rehabilitation of the displaced. The displaced from Cheranalloor and Mulavukad villages would be rehabilitated on 4.5 acres of land at Vaduthala, while the 3 acres identified in Kakkanad would be for those from Edappally north and south villages.
