Honour: K.S. Nissar Ahmed (centre) with K. Sridhar Achar and D. Baburaj after they were felicitated by the Press Club of Bangalore on Monday. BANGALORE: The Bangalore Press Club’s “Man of the Year 2007” award was presented to “Nithyothsava” poet K.S. Nissar Ahmed here on Monday. K. Sridhar Achar, Assistant Editor of Samyukta Karnataka, and D. Baburaj, retired photojournalist of Sanjevani, were presented the Press Club’s annual awards. After presenting the award to Prof. Ahmed, Union Minister of State for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways K.H. Muniyappa said role of the media was vital in the development of society. Journalists should work through their writings for the progress of the nation, highlighting the lapses of the three Estates. M.P. Prakash, former Deputy Chief Minister, who released the Press Club Diary 2008, recalled the contribution of Prof. Ahmed to the literary field. “Prof. Ahmed is a man of all years, not just this year,” he said. Prof. Ahmed said his works would not have received such recognition, if the medium had not been Kannada. “I am honoured to be a Kannada poet,” he said. Film actors Ramya and Chetan, and industrialist Yagnanarayana Kalmaje were present.
