BANGALORE: The Government had decided to confer the 2006-07 State-level Krishi Pandit award and Krishi Prashashthi on 34 farmers for their contributions to growth and development of agriculture. The awards would be conferred on farmers at a function to be held at Banquet Hall of the Vidhana Soudha on Thursday. A. Ramaswamy, principal secretary, Department of Agriculture, told presspersons here on Tuesday that Krishi Pandit awards would be given to 22 farmers while 12 farmers would get Krishi Prashashthi. Governor Rameshwar Thakur would present the awards. Legislative Council Chairman B.K. Chandrashekar and the former Legislative Assembly speaker Krishna will participate as chief guests. P.P. Prabhu, adviser to the Governor, who is handling agricultural portfolio, would release a souvenir. The Krishi Pandit awards had been categorised under four areas – efficient utilisation of water, organic farming, development of farm machinery and integrated farming, and crop diversification. At the district and taluk levels, the Krishi Prashasthi would be given to 10 and 154 farmers respectively, he said.
