IGNOU V-C honoured

Prof. Rajasekharan Pillai
NEW DELHI: Indira Gandhi National Open University Vice-Chancellor V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai will be conferred the Presidential Gold Medal Award by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the 95th Indian Science Congress in Visakhapatanam on Thursday.
The award is being conferred on Prof. Pillai for his key role in development of science and technology. His outstanding contributions in the field of biopolymers and peptides have received global recognition, said an official release.
“The offices held by Prof. Pillai as IGNOU Vice-Chancellor, Director of National Assessment and Accreditation Council and Vice-Chairman of University Grants Commission gained dignity and his services to the higher education are immense. The concept of distance education acquired a new dimension under his guidance as the head of IGNOU,” said the release quoting a communication from the Indian Science Congress.
Prof. Pillai joined IGNOU in October 2006. He had also been Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University at Kottayam with additional charge of Vice-Chancellor of Cochin University of Science and Technology.
