HIGHLIGHTING AN ANOMALY: Legislature Council Chairman B.K. Chandrashekar receiving a memorandum from BJP leader C.T. Ravi (right) at the Vidhana Soundha on Tuesday. BANGALORE: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday demanded that Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council H.K. Patil be divested of his post in view of the President’s rule in the State. A delegation of BJP leaders, led by the former MLA C.T. Ravi, submitted a memorandum to Council Chairman B.K. Chandrashekar on Tuesday in this regard. In the memorandum, Mr. Ravi said it was unethical for Mr. Patil to continue as the Opposition Leader when there was no ruling party or the Government in the State. He said the status of the then Opposition Leader in the Council T.N. Narasimha Murthy had been cancelled in 1989 when the Government headed by S.R. Bommai was dismissed. He threatened that the BJP leaders would stage a dharna in front of the office of the Council Chairman if he did not remove Mr. Patil as the Opposition Leader.
