Allam Appa Rao VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra University College of Engineering (AUCE) is making waves not only on the national but also on the international scene. A lot of research is going on in the college and it has got the distinction of bagging eight patents, including four US patents, in a single year, said its Principal Allam Appa Rao. Addressing a media conference in connection with the 95th Indian Science Congress, he said that a majority of the former students of AUCE were keen on setting up of industries rather than looking for jobs. The Chinese industries were evincing interest in taking AUCE graduates as ‘partners’ but not employees. He said that software majors like IBM, Cognizant, Wipro and TCS were coming again and again for campus recruitment. Prof. Appa Rao said that in the last three years the minimum salary being demanded by fresh graduates from the college has gone up from a mere Rs.15,000 per month to Rs.50,000 a month. He said that bio informatics has been started in the college and work was going on with the Australian National University in Canberra in the area of bio nano technology. AUCE was setting up a ‘bioinformatics panel’ at the Science Congress. The panel would be headed by the IBM India chief scientist and himself (Prof. Appa Rao), he said in reply to a query. “We have developed bio markers in association with medical professionals to identify Diabetes Mellitus much before its onset in patients. This would help in delaying the problem. Converging technologies have been used in developing the biomarkers,” he said in response to another query.
