Rajnath rushes to Rampur

Neena Vyas

Alleges that U.P. government tried to prevent the visit

“Centre not dealing firmly with the terrorists”

Wants full freedom for Army to deal with them

NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh rushed to Rampur in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday morning after learning of the terrorist attack on the Central Reserve Police Force camp .

Although the district magistrate of the area issued an order that his visit would be inappropriate at this juncture, Mr. Singh, insisted on visiting the camp and the hospital where some of the injured had been admitted. The party accused the Mayawati government of trying to prevent the visit.

He noted that Uttar Pradesh alone had seen terror attack at several places – Ayodhya, Varanasi, Jaunpur, the courts at Lucknow and Faizabad, and now Rampur.

Sleeper cells

He said that the number of terrorist sleeper cells had spread all over the country. He said that although he had banned the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) when he was Chief Minister, the Mulayam Singh Yadav government had not taken the threat posed by the SIMI seriously.

Mr. Singh was accompanied by Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi hailing from the area.

Party spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy told reporters that the country had awoken to the New Year with a terrorist strike.

Clearly, the manner in which terrorists were able to strike in different parts of the country showed they were emboldened by the United Progressive Alliance government’s failure to deal with the menace firmly, he said.

Mr. Rudy noted that the United States had not experienced even a single terrorist attack since 9/11 because of the tough measures adopted by that country.

The BJP demanded “full freedom” for the armed forces to deal with the problem.
