BANGALORE: These rare photographs provide a slice of history and insight into the Indian independence struggle that many would not want to miss. For, these vintage black and white photographs take us through the various stages of independence struggle, evoking emotional bond with the freedom fighters and their sacrifices for a great cause. “The Indian Freedom Struggle,” an exhibition of rare photographs, organised by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting presents photographs that would be of great interest and importance to History students and general public alike. If one gets to have a glimpse of various freedom fighters including Rani Chennamma, Annie Besant, and Bahadur Shah Zafar, there are photographs that capture the Antim Yatra of Lokmanya Tilak and the horrendous act at the Jalianwala Bagh which killed 379 people and injured 1,200. While not many know of the existence of a flag for Azad Hind Fauj, founded by Chandrashekar Azad, a photograph captures an Azad Hind Fauj member carrying it. These are also rare photographs that have captured different newspapers of those times such as The Bombay Chronicle and Amritha Bazar Patrika which were sold for an anna. Veteran freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy inaugurated the three-day exhibition at the auditorium of Sri. Hombegowda Boys High School.
