Chief Executive Officer clarifies

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Chief Executive Officer of the Bangalore Rural Zilla Panchayat K.S. Sathyamurthy has clarified that he was asked to attend a national-level training session on National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme on December 29 at Nazir Sab State Rural Development Institute at Mysore and therefore could not attend the Bangalore Rural Zilla Panchayat general meeting on that day.

In a letter sent to this newspaper, Mr. Sathyamurthy said he attended the training session on December 28 and 29.

He had secured permission of the president of Bangalore Rural Zilla Panchayat to attend the training.

Prior to his departure to Mysore to attend the training session, he had made all the arrangements for the zilla panchayat meeting on December 29, including drafting the agenda, answers to the questions asked by the members in the last meeting and several other documents, he said. On the direction of the president, he had also deputed the deputy secretary to officiate in the meeting on his behalf, Mr. Sathyamurthy clarified.

Members of the Zilla Panchayat in the meeting on December 29 had created a furore over the absence of Mr. Sathyamurthy and had accused him of dereliction of duty.
