In many an emergency situation involving critical accidents and serious diseases, time saved is life saved. The best option is to call an ambulance for quick medical attention. A new ambulance service —‘Dial 1298’ Ambulance Access for All — has been launched in Kochi. Just dial 1298. There will be quick response from a dedicated team to serve those in distress. It is a 24X7 ambulance service with sophisticated medical equipment for dealing with emergencies. The ambulance with advanced life support systems is supported by Global Positioning System (GPS) and Real Time Tracking system (RTS), monitored by a control room that functions round the clock. Cardiac monitor, resuscitation kit, portable ventilator, ECG and emergency medicines are other features. Medical consultant, helper and specially trained driver will be at the spot in quickest possible time. The GPS and RTS help track the ambulance among a group of vehicles positioned at various locations. The AAA had been operating successfully in Mumbai for over two years. The initiative was launched by a group of young professionals, in association with London Ambulance Service, a UK government agency. The Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin and American Heart Association are supporting it. The service in Kochi is being supported by various organisations including Confederation of Indian Industry. R. Ramabhadran Pillai
