SMS to send New Year wishes

The mobile companies call it Short Messaging Service (SMS). But today’s youth would like to call it ‘Short Meaty and Sweet.’

The New Year gifted them an opportunity to unleash their creative prowess through numerous messages forwarded to their friends and relatives.

“I was looking for something special this time. A message that would stand out,” said Gowri, an M. Phil student in Kochi.

The search yielded results. And soon she was sending this catchy message to her friends.

It said, ‘be careful from other duplicate new year wishers. I am the only authorised ISO 9001-2008 certified dealer in New Year wishes, advanced happy New Year 2008.’

Gowri is not alone in this race for sending the ‘different and innovative’ message.

Rahul, a marketing professional, worked overtime to find out a special message.

He fell in love with this short message that said: ‘anything you attempt in 2008 will have a vertical growth. 8 is the only number which ends upwards when you write. All others from 1 to 9 finish down. Happy New Year.’

There is no more charm in repeating the usual, ‘wishing you a very happy New Year,’ according to youngsters. They want power-packed one-liners. that would provide instant recognition.

Rajeev, a media professional, pushed this particular message to his friends this time. ‘I have already told Santa what I want for New Year — good friends. So if a big old man comes and tries to wrap you up, kindly cooperate.’ “Such messages help in mapping the mood of the festival,” says Rajeev.

For mobile service providers also came up with several crisp and sweet messages to attract youngsters. The festival is yet another occasion for them to boost sales.
