No plans to float new party as yet, says Prakash DAVANGERE: The former Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash has said that he has been consulting leaders of the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party and will join whichever party that protects the interests of his followers. Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Prakash claimed that over 18 former MLAs and a large number of councillors of different city corporations had expressed solidarity with him. Stiff oppositionHe said there was stiff opposition to his admission to the BJP in Bellary, and added that it was quite natural. He said he had been opposing the party all these years and hence the opposition. ‘Not true’When asked as to why he had expressed a desire to join the Congress despite leaders such as Siddaramaiah being reportedly sidelined after being brought into that party’s fold, Mr. Prakash said statements citing Siddaramaiah’s non-involvement in party affairs were not true. “Moreover, I will not join any party with big expectations except to safeguard the interests of my followers,” he said, and added that he had not yet thought of floating a new political outfit. Quoting examples of estranged leaders such as Bangarappa and Sankeshwar, he said the former MLA Mahima Patel had also tried to form a new outfit, but had miserably failed. Party membershipHe said since he had no formal primary membership in the Janata Dal (Secular), the question of resigning from the party did not arise. The former president of the Davangere district unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) Shamanur Basavaraj and councillor Bama Basavarajaiah were present.
