Gross negligence: The hanging bridge over the Krishnagiri Dam is in a dilapidated condition posing grave threat to users. –
Krishnagiri: The ample tourism potential available in the Krishnagiri Reservoir Project is yet to be fully exploited. The dam built across the Thenpennaiar River is the main source of drinking water supply to Krishnagiri Municipality besides meeting the irrigation needs of Periyamuthur, Sundekuppam, Thimmapuram, Chowtahalli, Gundalapatti, Mittahalli, Errahalli, Kaveripattinam, Paiyur and other villages in Krishnagiri.
According to sources, the ample space and scenic beauty available in the dam site has been underutilised. With Krishnagiri devoid of any tourist attraction the place could be developed on a par with the entertainment facilities available in Sathanur dam.
Park
There exists a beautifully landscaped park in front of the dam. But visitors complain about its poor maintenance with dead fishes floating in the watercourses. The enclosure for spotted deers has also been rendered unattractive due to poor maintenance.
Similarly, the other facilities like canteen, drinking water and toilets is said to be utterly lacking.
The boating facilities available in the dam also remain unutilised. The boats are now lying in a dilapidated condition.
Water
Rampant complaints also prevail on the poor quality of water supplied to residents of Krishnagiri municipality and surrounding panchayats.
According to District Collector Santhosh Babu a total of Rs. 65 lakh has been sanctioned by the department of tourism to develop the infrastructural facilities in Krishnagiri dam.
It has been decided to beautify the existing deer park, set up fountains and other watercourses in the park and also develop an aquarium. Similar facilities have also been planned at the Kelavarapalli dam in Hosur, he added.
