‘There are serious charges of corruption against some State Ministers’ BHOPAL: Encouraged by the Congress party’s successful performance in recent by-elections in Madhya Pradesh, the leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly, Jamuna Devi, said here on Wednesday that her party would be cornering the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party on the issue of corruption in the State Assembly election later this year. Ms. Jamuna Devi made this assertion at a New Year get-together in the State capital. She said it would be “absolutely wrong” to say which way the electoral fortunes would swing in the State Assembly elections on the basis of the outcome of the just concluded Gujarat and Himachal Assembly elections. The situation in both these States was different from Madhya Pradesh, she said adding that the Congress would contest the Assembly election there on the issue of corruption and poor development. Ms. Jamuna Devi said there were serious charges of corruption against some State Ministers. Even within the ruling BJP, the party cadres are disgruntled and this has been amply demonstrated by the outcome of the just concluded Khargone Parliamentary and Sanwer Assembly by-elections. Common manTalking of corruption, Ms. Jamuna Devi said: “The common man continues to suffer while development-linked corruption is at its peak and there is a virtual free-for-all in the State.”
