With the times: The home page of NSS portal. PERUNNA: When the deep, resonant voice reverberated from the podium for the first time in 37 years; there was a sudden silence in the jam-packed pandal. For the thousands who had gathered at the 131 Jayanthi celebrations of Mannathu Padmanabhan, organised by the Nair Service Society (NSS), it was a surprise. It was the voice of the legendary social reformer, speaking on his life and struggles. The talk began with the declaration of his desire to serve his people and the nation till the end. ‘ He’ went on to talk about the decisive moments in his life starting with the founding of the Nair Bhruthyajana Sanghom, on October 31, 1914; his decision to be a full-time volunteer, the efforts he had taken in building the NSS from near nothingness etc. Towards the end of the 15-minute speech, Mannathu Padmanabhan ‘talked’ about his dream ‘of a land where all communities lived in harmony.’ Now, a thunderous applause from the gathering broke the silence. The occasion was the launch of www.nss.org.in — the NSS website. The sound bite was the speech made by the ‘Samudayaacharya’ on the occasion of his 80th birthday and aired on the All India Radio. According to Sumesh, the chief operating officer of DES Technologies which designed the website, it carries one of the largest database on NSS and Mannathu Padmanabhan in the electronic format. Photo galleryThe site also has a photo gallery on NSS and another exclusively on Mannthu Padmanabhan. In addition, information about the organisation and its various institutions has also been included. The site will also have a fortnightly update of the official mouthpiece ‘Service.’ To begin with, the site will have information on the official notifications.
