NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to inform it on Thursday whether a Group of Ministers (GoM) of the Union Government was examining the suitability of construction of an elevated line between Central Secretariat and Badarpur in the Capital. GoM’s examination onA Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice T.S. Thakur and Justice Veena Birbal passed the direction when counsel for the petitioner submitted that he had come to know that at the request of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit a GoM was examining the suitability of the under-construction elevated line. The Bench observed that if what the petitioner’s counsel said was correct then it would wait for the GoM’s decision otherwise it would go ahead with the petition. The Court has already rejected the petitioner’s plea to stay the construction of the line till disposal of the petition. Petitions by RWAsIt has been hearing a bunch of petitions by residents’ welfare associations of some South Delhi colonies challenging the construction of the elevated Metro line on the ground that it would impinge upon their privacy. The proposed link, among others, will pass through Greater Kailash, Defence Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Kailash Colony, Jangpura and Kalkaji. The residents of colonies between Jangpura and Kalkaji expressed apprehension that the link would damage the green cover in their areas.
