Gang-rape: nine taken into custody

Sangareddy: Amid protests by women’s organisations in Ramayampet demanding the police to take action against the culprits involved in the gang rape of a seven-month pregnant woman near Sankapur, the Ramayampet police took into custody nine suspects, including four auto drivers, on Wednesday.

According to the Superintendent of Police R.B. Nayak, nine members took part in committing the heinous crime. The alleged rapists belong to Sankapur of Ramayampet mandal. They were booked and paraded before the press by Toopran DSP, Prasad, on Wednesday evening. Earlier during the day, Manu Bai, convener of Loksatta mahila wing, Balamani of AIDWA, and Zubeda Begum, president of Mandal Mahila Samakhya organised rallies and burned the effigies of rapists. They sat in front of Ramayampet police station and demanded action against the rapists.
