Ancient inscriptions discovered in temple

Staff Reporter

They relate to details of donations

rare FIND: An early period inscription at the Sri Choleeswarar temple at Parambur village in Pudukottai district.

PUDUKOTTAI: Ancient inscriptions dating back to the 11th century have been unearthed at the Rajendra Chozha Keraliswaran temple in Parambur village near Kudumiyanmalai in the district.

The inscriptions, deciphered by a team of epigraphists, relate to minute details of donations made by pious persons and devotees.

Some of them contained only a couple of lines engrossed on a big slab.

The shape of letters of the inscriptions and their correlation with known historical facts testified that the inscriptions related to the works executed at the temple, which is in a dilapidated condition now.

Epigraphist Karu. Rajendran, and curator of Government Museum C. Govindaraj led the team.
