PRTU plans agitation
Staff Reporter
ADILABAD: The Progressive Recognised Teachers’ Union (PRTU) will stage dharnas across the State in February and March to pressure the government for implementation of the points of agreement reached earlier with the union.
On February 8, dharnas will be staged in mandal headquarters while on March 14, similar protests will be organised at district headquarters, according to State president of the union P. Venkat Reddy and general secretary P. Ravi Kiran.
The PRTU leaders told reporters here on Wednesday that the government’s apathy was paving the way for a conflict and their union had decided to launch agitations in a phased manner.
While the main demand of the union remained framing of common service rules for teachers under different managements and scrapping of the contributory pension scheme, the union also demanded filling of the large number of vacancies in the Education Department.
Mr. Venkat Reddy and Mr. Ravi Kiran demanded placing all subjects related to education under a single Ministry. At present, one Ministry looked after education while another took care of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, now known as Rajiv Vidya Mission (RVM), they pointed out.
