PALAKKAD: Electricity Minister A.K. Balan has said that the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is considering an alternative 220 kV power line from Shoranur to Palakkad. Talking to presspersons after a review meeting of the power production and distribution in the district here on Tuesday, the Minister said an alternative power line was necessary for the district because any breakdown of the existing Madakkathara-Kanjikode 220 kV line passing through the forest areas could stop power supply to the district. Last year for two weeks power supply was disrupted in the district owing to a major repair work in the Madakkathara-Kanjikode power line. The sub-station of the new line could be located at Mankara or Vennakkara, the Minister said. He said that investigation for technical feasibility of 84 MW power from mini-hydel projects in the district had started. The investigation for Mukkali (40 MW), Lower Vattapara (7 MW), Upper Vattapara (5 MW), Kallamala (9 MW), Koodam (4 MW), Attila (10 MW) and Chembukatti (9 MW) also had started.
