Honorarium hiked
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: The Government has increased the monthly honorarium payable to Vidya Volunteers working in its high schools across the State from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 1,500, thus meeting a major demand from them.
An order providing for this enhancement was issued here on Wednesday.
S. Balasubramanyam, commissioner, School Education, told The Hindu that the hike which would benefit over 20,000 Vidya Volunteers in high schools, would impose an additional annual burden of Rs. 10 crore on the ex-chequer. With this, the total commitment on these teachers would be Rs. 30 crore annually.
He said the enhancement would effective from June 2007 and as such, arrears would be paid to Vidya Volunteers.
It may be recalled that the honorarium had already been enhanced in case of the 40,000 odd Vidya Volunteers working in the schools at primary level.
