The festival will be a two-day event this year The last international festival attracted over one lakh people MANGALORE: Team Mangalore, the city’s own intrepid group of kite flyers, is back at doing what they know best — organise kite festivals. Having virtually won the hearts and minds of people by organising the first international kite festival in January 2005, it has embarked on the second such event, which will be held on Panambur beach near here from January 19. The last international festival attracted over one lakh people. According to Sarvesh Rao, coordinator of Team Mangalore, the theme for the festival this year is “Global Warming.” The festival this year will be a two-day affair. “The festival is planned for two days to ease the pressure of crowd who throng the beach to watch the event ,” he said on a press release. Kite flyers from the United Kingdom, Holland, Germany, Italy, Indonesia, Thailand, the U.S., France and Australia have confirmed their participation. In addition, teams from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka will participate in the festival, he says. On the reason for organising the festival, Mr. Rao says, “Today there is a need to bring back the innocence of childhood in the lives of our children. ” M. Maheshwar Rao, Deputy Commissioner, released the logo of the ONGC MRPL International Kite Festival 2008 here on Tuesday.
