Insurance firm official jailed

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Special Judge for CBI cases here sentenced an officer of the New India Assurance Company in Vijayawada to serve a three-year jail term and pay a fine of Rs. 15,000 for cheating and other offences and causing a loss of Rs. 37 lakhs to the company and corresponding wrongful gain to him.
Administrative Officer-cum-Divisional Accountant of the Divisional Office-I of the New India Assurance Company I. Durga Prasad was convicted by Special Judge for CBI cases T. Bhaskara Rao to undergo three years imprisonment and also to pay a fine of Rs. 10,000 under Section 420 of IPC, three years of imprisonment for the offences committed under Sec. 477-A of IPC, and another term of three years of jail and to pay a fine of Rs. 5,000 for the offences committed under Sec. 13(2) read with Sec. 13 (1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act.
The judge also ordered that the sentences should run concurrently, according to a press release issued here by SP of CBI C. Eswaramoorthy.
