GANDHINAGAR: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and the State Congress president, Bharat Solanki, have urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to ask the Kenyan government to take necessary steps for the safety and protection of Gujaratis in that country. In a letter to Dr. Singh, Mr. Modi expressed serious concern over the safety of Gujaratis, who had become targets of the sectarian violence in that country following election-related disturbances. Mr. Modi wanted arrangements made through the Indian embassy for issuing emergency visas and arranging special flight arrangements for those who were keen on returning to India temporarily. He also spoke to some of the Gujaratis there and welcomed them to return to the State and stay till the return of normality. The Chief Minister also requested the Prime Minister to give certain relaxation in the yellow fever certification scheme for those who wanted to return temporarily.
